The Loreto Sanctuary (or Loreta) is a place of pilgrimage in Prague founded in 1626, famous for its copy of the House of the Virgin Mary (the Holy Hut). The Shrine of the Holy House was built in 1631 by Giovanni Orsi and decorated with reliefs based on scenes from Holy Mary's life. A silver-plated statue of Mary is found inside the Shrine. According to legend, angels carried Mary's house from Nazareth to a laurel grove (Loreto) in Italy. The Loreto Sanctuary in Prague has an impressive treasury. 27 carillons ring a Marian choral every hour. The main facade and the clock tower were built by Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer in 1720.
