Construction of this church in the style of Classicism had begun in mid-17th century and went on for 130 years. One of the Saint Sulpice chapels had been painted by Delacroix. Every year on March 22nd a ray of sunlight seeps through a special slit, marking the prime meridian on the altar.
The Saint-Sulpice church was made famous by popular culture. First Dumas settled his musketeers nearby: D'Artagnan lodged on the street that begins at the left facade of Saint-Sulpice, Aramis lived on Rue de Vaugirard, Athos lodged on Rue FГ©rou, and Porthos had an apartment on Rue du Vieux Colombier. Fans of Dan Brown's work look for symbols from "Da Vinci Code" here.
