Holidays of Mallorca

On January 26th the town of Algaida celebrates the day of Baile de Cossiers, one of the ancient dances of the island. In July and August performances are held in the town of Montuïri.

January 17th on Mallorca is the day of Saint Anthony (Diada de Sant Antoni), also known as beneïdes. During the day you can witness a festive parade of antique carriages, and at night all towns and villages of the island burn bonfires.

January 20th is the patron saint day of Mallorca, Sant Sebastià, that is marked by many cultural events and performances.

February 11th in the town of Sóller is a remembrance day for the Virgin of Lourdes (Virgen de Lourdes).

The town of Marratxi holds a ceramics market, Fira del Fang, in the first half of March.

May 8th is marked by Ball del Bot folk dancing in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar.

The second Sunday of May locals of Sóller commemorate the anniversary of the battle against invading pirates in 1561. In Pollença the same celebration takes place on August 2nd, and it is called Moros i Cristians.

Every three years (the closest dates are in 2013 and 2016) on the 26th of July a religious procession, Procesión del Sant Cristo, takes place in Alcúdia.

On August 10th, the monastery of Lluc celebrates the anniversary of Coronation of the Virgin.

The period between the 6th and 12th of September in Santa Ponça marks the disembarkation of King Jaume I on the island in 1229.

The first week of September in Vilafranca de Bonany is the Festa del meló, the festival of melons.

The last week of September in Binissalem is the traditional grape picking week.

The first Sunday of October in Sant Joan is the festival of Catalan pork sausages, Festa del Botifarró.

October 20th is the day on which young men of villages in Sierra de Tramontana sing serenades under the balconies of young women, who in turn offer them sweet wine and pies. This day is called Festa de les Verges.

The third Thursday of November in Inca is marked by the largest market gathering, called Dijous Bo.

On November 27th the whole island of Mallorca remembers Ramon Llull, a canonized philosopher, poet and one of the founders of Catalan literature who lived in the 13th century.

31st of December is Festa de l'Estendard that commemorates the entrance of King Jaume I's army along with the Catalan flag into Palma.

Festivals in Mallorca

From March to July El Centre Cultural de la Misericòrdia in Palma de Mallorca holds the traditional Spring of Opera festival (Primavera de Ópera de Palma).

In April the capital theatre, El Teatre Principal de Palma, hosts the International Festival of Folk Dance, El Festival Mundial de Danzas Folclóricas.

From April to December various outdoor and indoor venues of Palma offer jazz performances as part of the string of jazz events known as Jazz Voyeur.

The Week of Music, Semana de la Música, takes place in a small town called Felanitx during the last two weeks of May.

In summer, outdoor jazz concerts abound in Sa Pobla.

The folklore festival El Festival Folclórico de Sóller takes place over the course of eight days in July in Sóller and its surrounding areas.

July and August are marked by the traditional festival of classical music in the monastery of San Domingo in Pollença.

The whole month of August in the monastery of Valldemossa is devoted to the festival of music composed by Chopin.

From October to December the international dance festival Dansamàniga is held in Cala Millor.
