Potsdamer Platz is the central square in Berlin, where a few major streets have their starting points. Here, the Potsdamer Gates used to stand and the road to Potsdam took its beginning. In the World War II, during the battle for Berlin, many buildings around the square were destroyed or severely damaged. Soon after Potsdamer Platz was cut in half by the Berlin Wall, and what used to be a very energetic place got abandoned for a long time.
After the fall of the wall Roger Waters from Pink Floyd performed the famous show "The Wall" on Potsdamer Platz in 1990, and the square became a centre of attention once again. Today Potsdamer Platz is one of the most exciting construction projects in Europe and subject for debate among architects and engineers.
