Districts of Rome

Getting around in Rome is easy and difficult at the same time. It is easy if you are looking to visit the primarily tourist areas and see what most visitors want to see – the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Circus Maximus, the Vatican, all the usual (and divinely ancient and beautiful) stuff – you do not need to go far. Most of the places of interest, just like best apartments in Rome, are concentrated in the centro storico (historical centre) of Rome which can be covered on foot.

Keep in mind, however, that Rome is an enormous city in which it is as easy to get lost as it is to find the Sistine Chapel. Because getting off the beaten path and discovering your own version of Rome is what will bring you the most lasting memories, you should carry a map with you and focus on what you want to see and what sites you want to visit.

The historic center of the Eternal city commonly includes the following districts: Campitelli (The Circus Maximus, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Imperial Palace, the Palatine hill itself), Esquilino (the church of Santa Maria Maggiore), Quirinale (the Quirinal Palace), Trevi (the fountain Trevi), Sant’ Eustachio (Pantheon), and others. The city of Vatican speaks for itself: the Vatican museum, St. Peter’s basilica and the Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo’s divine masterpieces are a must-see for anyone new to Rome (and millions of tourists are well aware of that). The left bank district of Trastevere is also worth exploring: it is a new nightlife hub of Rome, where trendy bars, hip restaurants and quirky accommodation options abound.

The districts and neighbourhoods are diverse and numerous in Rome, and the fact that even Romans do not always agree on where the boundaries of which lie further complicates things for visitors. To make the selection of a place to stay less of a hassle for our guests, all Roman apartments are grouped around major attractions that are closest to them, not around official municipal boundaries.
